The long-awaited and highly acclaimed Castle Course opened for play at St Andrew’s in 2008.   The Course, which is built on a clifftop follows the St Andrews coastline and was built on reclaimed land.  Golfers should expect a traditional golf experience but with a visual twist.  The Castle Course offers a very different golfing experience from Trust’s other six golf courses.  The course has a raw natural look and has some incredible holes that are simply a joy to play.  The 17th hole ‘Braes’ is a visually intimidating par 3 where you will hit over the luscious gorge,  likely into a prevailing wind from one protruded cliff top to another.  This signature hole is set high on the cliff-edge so you can expect to enjoy spectacular views of St Andrew’s old town and the Coast. The par 5 18th ‘Rock and Spindle’ with its risk and reward options runs along the top of the cliff is an exciting finishing hole.

The course which plays to 6759 yards from the back tees was designed and crafted by David McLay Kidd, who created the highly acclaimed Brandon Dunes Masterpiece in Oregon.  Kidd is known for creating traditional style courses but has a wonderful way of working with the land to create unique and visually stunning course designs. The new Castle course takes its place amongst the Trusts other 6 courses and its challenging playability and wonderful scenery is a perfect addition to this Golf mecca
